A shared housing development which cost close to £800,000 to build at Manse Court in Saintfield has been shortlisted for the prestigious Construction Excellence Awards, which celebrate the best building projects throughout Northern Ireland.

The new social housing scheme completed by Choice Housing and Lowry Construction provides a mix of 12 modern units including two bedroom apartments and four houses with two and three bedrooms.

Michael McDonnell, Choice Group Chief Executive said. “Building new homes to meet acute housing need and support vulnerable people remains at the core of our work. We’re building high quality dwellings that shape new standards of excellence and can endure the rigors of time – remaining efficient, comfortable and suitable for our customers. Housing is a powerful catalyst for positive community transformation and it is important for Choice that our development activity maximises the social impact we make”.

John Armstrong, CEF Managing Director commented; “The Awards recognise the diverse and excellent work carried out by the industry that we represent. The showcase is an uplifting opportunity to discover more about some of the best project and initiatives that the local industry has delivered over the last year”.

Built on the site of a former PSNI station, Manse Court is one of a number of ‘shared housing’ schemes that are leading the way in good community relations. It aims to create an environment where people of all communities and backgrounds can live, learn, work and socialise together free from prejudice and intolerance.

The Construction Excellence Awards 2016 will be held on 6th October in the Culloden Hotel, Belfast.
