Ballydown Court, a thriving sheltered living scheme operated by Choice Housing, marked its 30th anniversary with a heartfelt celebration attended by tenants, staff, and guests.
Located on the Glen Road in West Belfast—just three miles from the city centre—Ballydown Court first opened its doors in May 1995. The scheme offers 38 self-contained apartments, each designed with accessibility in mind, including full lift access. Its location ensures excellent connectivity with regular public transport and close proximity to popular amenities such as the Westwood and Kennedy shopping complexes.
More than just a place to live, Ballydown Court is known for its strong sense of community and vibrant social life. Weekly coffee mornings, bingo nights, and fish-and-chip suppers, alongside seasonal celebrations and charity fundraisers, foster a warm and inclusive atmosphere for all.
A highlight of the anniversary celebration was the ceremonial cake-cutting by Kathleen Egan, Ballydown Court’s longest-standing resident. Now 97 years old, Kathleen moved into the scheme in the early 1990s and remains an active contributor to its community spirit. She was joined by family and close friends for the occasion.
Carol Ervine, Choice Group Director of Tenant and Client Services was among those who attended the special event, and said:
“It was a real privilege to join the celebrations at Ballydown Court and to spend time with the remarkable staff and residents who make this scheme so special.
Ballydown Court is a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration and community. With dedicated Choice staff and an engaged group of tenants, the scheme has built a culture rooted in support, inclusivity, and success.
These values have defined Ballydown Court for three decades, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved. Here’s to many more happy years ahead.”
Choice are proud to support a strong sense of community by helping residents live independently, stay connected, and feel truly at home in a caring, supportive environment.
