As part of Shared Housing Week 2025, tenants from Edgar Boyd Court and pupils from Carryduff Primary School came together today to take part in Knowing Me, Knowing You. A unique intergenerational project designed to connect young and old through shared stories, creativity and learning.
The programme encourages pupils and residents to pair up and explore different stages of life, reflecting on themes such as music, school, holidays, home life and work. Using artefacts, songs, games and creative activities, participants compared their own childhood experiences and discovered surprising similarities, as well as, how things have changed over the years.
Workshops include everything from playing old records and researching “number one” songs from each generation, to sharing memories of schooldays, drawing childhood homes, and creating colourful stained-glass style keepsakes. The project concludes with a presentation where children gift their older partners a handmade piece of art, alongside a photo book documenting their shared journey.
By sparking conversations across generations, Knowing Me, Knowing You not only preserves stories and memories, but also builds friendships and strengthens community connections, the very heart of what Shared Housing Week celebrates.
