United Nations World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on the 3rd of March. It is a designated day to raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants and to recognise their unique and vital roles within our ecosystems.
At Choice, we recognise the importance of wildlife to both people and the planet. Our Energy and Sustainability Team dedicate significant time and effort to developing and contributing to ongoing projects focused on biodiversity and habitat restoration.
Listed below are just some of the team’s recent latest actions to help protect and enhance biodiversity:
- At Choice’s Riverdale site, a native Irish hedgerow has been planted to enhance pollination and support a wide variety of insects and birds.
- Choice holds an annual biodiversity competition to encourage tenants to be more mindful and nurturing towards the wildlife that exists close to our homes. This year’s winner, Laura Wheeler, beautifully captured the connection between plants and pollinators.
- Choice is working alongside St. Teresa’s Nursery School and Bearnagh Glen Scheme to create an outdoor space with raised beds designed to support local wildlife.
- We are actively addressing biodiversity loss at a local level, including plans to sow a patch of wildflowers at Hollybank Primary School.
- Choice has its very own Biodiversity Action Plan in place for the next three years and is extremely proud to already be ahead of target, with 500 trees planted in the first year alone, despite the original target being set across three years.
Supporting and nurturing wild animals and plants is a key priority for Choice. We encourage everyone to be more mindful of how we treat wildlife, as together we can help make a positive and lasting difference to our ecosystems.
