In 2025, Choice launched its Biodiversity Action Plan, setting out how we aim to enhance biodiversity across our new developments, improve the land we already manage and actively engage residents and stakeholders in this work.

We were delighted to recently meet with our landlord electricity and natural gas providers, Click Energy and Flogas, who generously donated bird boxes as part of their social value commitments. As both companies already supply energy to our landlord and communal areas, it is encouraging to see their additional support in helping us deliver meaningful environmental improvements for our residents.

With both organisations based in Derry~Londonderry, we were keen to install the bird boxes locally, selecting Lisnavar Court as the first sheltered living scheme to benefit.

Residents at Lisnavar Court have played a key role in recent years in creating a vibrant and welcoming garden space. This includes a vegetable patch and a variety of plants designed to attract wildlife such as bees and butterflies. Enthusiastic tenants have also installed bird feeders, tables and a bird bath, and have observed a growing number of bird species visiting and nesting in the area.

Members of Choice’s Sustainability and Energy Team, including our new Biodiversity Coordinator Emily Taylor, were pleased to collect the bird boxes from Click Energy and Flogas and present them to residents and the scheme coordinator at Lisnavar Court.

Emily said: “It’s fantastic to see Choice working in partnership with committed organisations and passionate residents to support biodiversity at a local level. I’m really looking forward to engaging further with staff and residents across our schemes as we deliver on the nature commitments set out in our Biodiversity Action Plan.”
