Three Ulster University students have been awarded Choice Housing Scholarships, providing a £1,500 boost to help them begin their higher education journey and make the most of their time at university.
Now, in its seventh year, the scholarships have provided £24,000 in financial support to 21 first-year students since 2019, supporting the scholars as they begin their studies and develop their ambitions for the future.
The Choice Scholarships are part of Choice’s wider commitment to supporting communities and creating opportunities for people to thrive. Its partnership with Ulster University reflects a shared focus on investing in people, supporting ambition and helping students realise their potential.
Each of this year’s recipients received a £1,500 scholarship towards the cost of their studies. The awards are open to eligible undergraduate students across Ulster University’s Belfast, Coleraine, and Derry~Londonderry campuses and provide practical support at an important stage in their university journey.
Lawrence Jackson, Choice Group Director of Corporate Services, said:
"Developing strong partnerships with education providers is an important part of our commitment to creating opportunities for individuals and supporting thriving communities.
This scholarship reflects that commitment by helping to remove barriers to education and supporting individuals to achieve their full potential. I would like to congratulate our three recipients and wish them every success in their studies and future careers.”
For the students receiving the awards, the scholarships provide valuable support as they begin their university journey. Abigail Molloy, one of this year’s scholarship recipients said:
“I am delighted to have been awarded the Choice Scholarship, and I’m incredibly grateful for this support, as it has made a significant difference to my university experience. Thanks to the scholarship, I was able to move into term-time accommodation which eliminated a three-hour daily commute. Living closer to campus has allowed me to fully engage in university life, actively participate in societies, and make the most of all the opportunities available. The Choice Scholarship support has not only eased financial pressure but has also greatly enhanced my overall student experience.”
Tania Carlisle, Corporate Engagement Partner at Ulster University, said:
“Choice is helping turn potential into opportunity by investing in students at the start of their university journey. These scholarships provide valuable support and encouragement when it matters, whilst demonstrating the real difference that purposeful university-business partnerships can make.”
The recipients were selected through an application process based on a range of widening access and participation criteria established by Ulster University.
