05 Oct 2026

October is Positive Ageing Month, an opportunity to celebrate the contribution older people make to our communities and highlight the importance of staying connected, active and involved at every stage of life.

Throughout the month, activities and events across Northern Ireland will encourage older people to connect with others, stay active, learn new skills and discover opportunities within their local communities.

This year, two themes are at the heart of Positive Ageing Month: ‘What’s on your doorstep?’ and ‘The Part We Play’.

At Choice, we’re proud to support the month by highlighting opportunities for our older tenants to connect and get involved, whilst celebrating the important role they play in making our communities great places to live.

What’s on your doorstep?

At Choice, we understand that a home is about much more than four walls. Feeling connected to the people and opportunities around us can play an important part in helping us feel supported, valued and involved.

Our sheltered living schemes provide older people with the opportunity to live independently in their own homes whilst being part of a safe, friendly and supportive community.

Throughout October, we’ll be showcasing some of the fantastic activities taking place across our sheltered living schemes and celebrating the sense of community, connection and friendship they create.

The Part We Play

Positive Ageing Month is also an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution older people make to our communities.

Older people bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills, contributing to their families, neighbourhoods and communities in so many different ways.

At Choice, we see this contribution every day. As part of this year’s campaign, our tenant Dirk will be sharing some of his own knowledge, with helpful tips and advice around nutrition, fueling our bodies and making informed food choices.

Positive Ageing Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate our older tenants, recognise their contribution and showcase the people, activities and connections that help make our communities stronger.

Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout October as we share more activities and stories from our tenants and communities.
